Macron says EU ready to slap fresh sanctions against Russia

PARIS/BRUSSELS, Mar 11 (PRIME) -- The E.U. is ready to announce fresh sanctions on Russia over its actions in Ukraine, France’s President Emmanuel Macron said at a news conference on Friday.

“We are ready to approve additional sanctions, all the options are on the table,” he said.

European Commission’s President Ursula von der Leyen said that the E.U. will present in May a plan of liquidation of the union’s gas dependency on Russia’s oil and gas by 2027.

She added that the idea to reduce Russian gas consumption by the E.U. by two thirds already in 2022 does not imply a ban on the imports.

Macron said that the E.U. is developing a mechanism to protect the European consumers from the consequences of the gas crisis.
